Uber and Bolt are not curbside at Heathrow — follow the app to your terminal's designated Short Stay / Terminal Car Park pickup area. Typical spots: T2 Short Stay Car Park 2, Level 4, Row H; T3 Short Stay Car Park 3, Level 3, Row A; T4 Level 1 Private Hire Pickup; T5 Short Stay Car Park 5, Level 1, Row R. Always follow the in-app pin — these zones can shift. Surge is common at peak, late night, and in bad weather.

Taxi

Black cabs queue at official ranks immediately outside arrivals at each terminal — no booking needed. Drivers are fully licensed ("The Knowledge") and use the meter, so there's no negotiation. Cards accepted; Uber's "Black Cab" option books the same licensed cabs at the metered fare plus a small booking fee.

Shuttle

National Express coaches serve central London and other UK cities from the Central Bus Station (between T2 and T3). For nearby hotels, the paid Heathrow Hotel Hoppa network picks up at designated Hoppa stops outside arrivals.

Transit

Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) serves Terminals 2 & 3 and Terminal 5 directly; Terminal 4 is on the Piccadilly Line only. Heathrow Express runs non-stop to Paddington in 15 minutes (T2/3 and T5) but is premium-priced; the Elizabeth Line reaches more of central London (Paddington, Bond Street, Liverpool Street, Canary Wharf) for less. Night bus N9 covers overnight gaps.

Private Transfer

Pre-booked private transfers and minicabs use designated meet-and-greet zones; at T5, the standard meeting point is the Costa Coffee inside arrivals, where drivers wait with a name board.

Local Tips

  • Only use licensed black cabs or pre-booked minicabs (Uber, Addison Lee) — never unlicensed touts.
  • Terminal 4 is only served by the Piccadilly Line (not the Elizabeth line) — check your terminal carefully.
