Charlotte Douglas International Airport

Charlotte, United States

Where to start
Uber / Lyft

For Uptown Charlotte (~7 miles, ~15 min), take rideshare or a taxi. Note the gotcha: Uber/Lyft pick up on the Departures/Ticketing UPPER level (inner lanes, Zones 1–3), not at the baggage-claim curb — go up, not out. Taxis queue on the ground transportation level (metered, cards accepted). There's no train to the airport; the CATS city bus is the budget option.

Pickup Guidance

Rideshare

Uber/Lyft pick up on the Departures/Ticketing level — the UPPER level, inner lanes, Zones 1–3 — NOT at the baggage-claim curb. Go up from baggage claim; Uber commonly assigns Door D. Follow current signage and your in-app pin (zones can shift during construction).

Taxi

Taxis queue on the ground transportation level — six approved companies (City, Crown, Green, Yellow, Orange, Royal Cab), all metered, cards accepted.

Shuttle

Courtesy and hotel shuttles use the designated ground-transportation zones.

Transit

The CATS city bus is the budget option to Uptown Charlotte (longer, with stops). There is no rail link to the airport.

Private Transfer

Pre-booked cars and SIXT Ride meet you in arrivals with a name sign — good for groups or late arrivals.

Local Tips

  • Rideshare picks up UPSTAIRS on the Departures/Ticketing level (inner lanes, Zones 1–3) — not at baggage claim. This trips up first-timers who wait at the arrivals curb.
  • Uptown Charlotte is only ~7 miles (~15 min in light traffic) — rides are short and affordable.
  • There's no train to the airport — use rideshare, a taxi, or the CATS city bus (the budget option).
  • CLT is a huge American Airlines connecting hub — arrivals-curb congestion can be heavy at peak banks; allow a little extra time.
  • I-77 can be congested during rush hours (7–9 AM, 4–7 PM) — factor it into airport runs.

Tarmyq local tip

Don't stand at the arrivals curb for your Uber — at CLT the rideshare pickup is one level up, on the Departures level (Zones 1–3). Head up the escalator and follow the rideshare signs.
