AKL

Auckland Airport

Auckland, New Zealand

Where to start
SkyDrive Express Coach

There's no direct train to AKL — for the CBD, the easiest option is the SkyDrive express coach (flat fare, direct to SkyCity, every 30 min, ~5am–10:30pm). For door-to-door, taxis and Uber pick up at the Transport Pick-up Zone, out Door 11 at the International Terminal (Uber adds an airport access fee). The lowest-cost route is the AirportLink bus to Puhinui Station, then a train. Note the two terminals are ~500 m apart (free shuttle or 10-min walk).

Pickup Guidance

Rideshare

Uber operates (an airport access fee is added; no flat rate). Pickup is at the Transport Pick-up Zone, a 1–2 min walk out Door 11 at the International Terminal (Domestic: out Door 4 / the forecourt). Note Zoomy and Ola no longer operate in Auckland.

Taxi

Taxis at the Transport Pick-up Zone, out Door 11 at the International Terminal (on-demand taxi/shuttle lanes 2 and 3); at the Domestic Terminal, out Door 4. Pre-booked taxis meet inside arrivals. Auckland Co-op Taxis and Corporate Cabs are reputable.

Shuttle

SkyDrive express coach runs direct to SkyCity in the CBD (flat fare, every 30 min, ~5am–10:30pm). Off-site shared shuttles depart from the Off-site Transfer zone, ~5–7 min walk north of the Transport Hub.

Transit

No direct train to the airport. The lowest-cost public route is the AirportLink bus (bright orange) from the terminals to Puhinui Station, then a Southern/Eastern Line train into the city. An AT HOP card is recommended.

Private Transfer

Pre-booked transfers and SIXT Ride meet you in arrivals with a name sign — door-to-door for groups or destinations off the CBD coach route.

Local Tips

  • No train runs directly to the airport — the lowest-cost rail option is the AirportLink bus to Puhinui Station, then a train. For the CBD, the SkyDrive coach is simpler (one seat, direct).
  • The two terminals are ~500 m apart — if you need the other one, use the free shuttle (every 15 min) or the 10-min marked walkway (green footprints painted on the ground).
  • Taxi/Uber pickup is out Door 11 at the International Terminal (the Transport Pick-up Zone) — follow the signs; Uber adds an airport access fee.
  • Auckland traffic peaks 7–9am and 4–6pm — allow extra time to or from the CBD.
  • Remember Kiwis drive on the LEFT, and public transport is most affordable with an AT HOP card (some services are card-only).

Tarmyq local tip

For the city centre, SkyDrive is the easy default — flat fare, direct to SkyCity, no transfers. If you're counting every dollar, the AirportLink bus to Puhinui then a train is lowest-cost, but it's a bus-then-train combo, not a one-seat ride.
